Student Biography

Jason Weaver is currently in his 5th year in the Architectural Engineering program at The Pennsylvania State University.  Specializing in the lighting/electrical option, he will graduate in May 2008 with concurrent Bachelor and Master of Architectural Engineering degrees.

A love for theatrical lighting, an interest in architecture, and a strong math background made Jason choose the architectural engineering major.  He has enjoyed the balance of engineering and art that the major stressed, and had taken many opportunities the major has presented.  This included studying abroad at the University of Leeds in the UK for the Fall 2006 semester.  For the past three summers, Jason has interned in the Applications Engineering department at elliptipar, and this has given him a lot of real world experience in lighting design and manufacturing.

In his spare time, Jason keeps very busy, acting as President of the Architectural Engineering Honor Society, Phi Alpha Epsilon, and as Treasurer of the Illuminating Engineering Society student chapter.  Jason also volunteers as a teaching aide with the Volunteer in Public Schools program in State College.  He is heavily involved with Penn State Dance Marathon, and is a member of a professional fraternity, Phi Gamma Nu.  Outside of extracurriculars, Jason enjoys volleyball, hiking, traveling, and reading.

Jason passed the Fundamentals of Engineering exam in October of 2005, and one of his career goals is to become licensed as a Professional Engineer.  He is currently pursuing careers in optical and luminaire design, lighting design, or electrical systems design.
